Our Activities
Club Nights
The type of activities we have on club nights are, bingo, arts and crafts, cooking,
quiz nights, games nights and much more. The members also make cards and presents for
special occasions such as Mothers day, Easter and Christmas etc.
We also have parties for special birthdays like 18th or 21st and also at Christmas, where
we buy presents and Father Christmas visits. All the activities are provided and funded by us.
Between the months of May and September, we have trips out either on a Saturday or Sunday
once a month. We visit places like the zoo, farms, museums, seaside and other places of interest.
Holidays
When we first started H.A.LO. we took all members camping for two long weekends a year to
Dymchurch and we did this for nearly 12 years. As the members and helpers started to get
older we began to look for other places to stay. We found a youth hostel based in the New
Forest, which was much easier for us all, so members were taken there for seven days once a
year. We continued to go there for six years.
Whilst on holiday we went on days out. Evenings were spent either visiting Bournemouth or
making our own entertainment. We were lucky that there was an outdoor swimming pool on site,
which we hired for two sessions through the week.
For five years we went to Wales for a week's holiday, but for the last three years we have been going to a
specially adapted holiday accomodation in Poole, Dorset. (Holton Lee).
Helpers and members share the cost of the basic holiday, while the cost of outings and any
extras, are paid for by the club through the fund raising.
Fund Raising
The club receives no grants, all our costs, such as insurance, public liability
insurance, mini bus maintenance, hire of hall, club activities and much more, is paid for
by any monies that we can raise.
The types of events we organise for fund raising are: sponsored walks or swims, dances,
discos, Christmas bazaars, and of course any kind donation from people that have got to
know us over the years. We do need to continuously raise funds for maintenance and upkeep
of the mini buses, and for the cost of club nights, outings and holiday.
Volunteering
We would be very grateful for any help than can be offered with the running of the club.
If you would like more information, or would like to come and see if you would be interested
in volunteering, or if you know someone who would like to join us as a member or helper
please get in contact with us.
